Transforming Salzgitter’s City Center for a Sustainable Future
Public Space
Overview
This project was part of the EU funding program “Perspective City Center!”, designed to address the economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and revitalize urban centers. The focus was on redesigning the city center of Salzgitter with an emphasis on climate protection, including dealing with surfaces and planting resilient tree species to enhance the urban climate. Efforts also aimed to improve the quality of stay and create inviting meeting points.
This was achieved through planting new trees and replacing dying ones with climate-resilient species, installing fog technology to reduce ambient temperatures, and adding drinking water fountains for summer refreshments.
